Wochenende am Zuger See

Letztes Wochenende waren Beates Eltern (also Omi und Opi) da und wir verbrachten einen wunderschönen Nachmittag am Zuger See. Ja, die Schweiz ist ein schönes Fleckchen Erde und es ist jammerschade, dass wir schon bald wieder gehen müssen.... und wir haben noch gar nicht viel gesehen. 

We spent a wonderful Saturday afternoon at the Zuger lake. Beate's parents were here to help us out but we had also time to explore some places nearby. Switzerland is just beautiful and it is a real shame that we have to leave the country so soon. We wanted to see so much more...

Bald heisst es nicht mehr Templesgoswitzerland sondern TemplesgoUSA. Anfang Februar wurde Jeff gekündigt. Dazu könnte man schon einen halben Roman schreiben. Aber damit verschone ich euch lieber oder ihr könnt die Geschichte auch persönlich am Telefon hören oder ihr kennt sie schon. Nach langem hin und her haben wir uns jetzt für die USA entschieden. Ganz genau geht es nach Virginia (Ostküste). Jeff hat in der Nähe von Charlottesville eine Arbeit gefunden und kann am 11. Mai anfangen. Ich (Beate) brauche noch die Green Card - genau deshalb waren wir vor 2 Wochen  in Bern beim amerikanischen Konsulat. Das war ein Erlebnis und teilweise recht nervenaufreibend. Zwei Wochen später haben wir schon so manchen Papierkrieg erledigt. Was man so alles braucht:

• polizeiliches Führungszeugnis von Deutschland und in meinem Fall England 
• medizinische Untersuchung mit Hörtest, Sehtest, Röntgen,...(sämtliche Impfungen müssen auf dem neusten Stand sein und übrigens das ganze kostet ja "nur" 550Franken)
• beglaubigte Geburtsurkunde 
  
• Passphotos
• Ehevertrag
• Formular mit sämtlichen Daten von mir                                                                                  (z.B. Wo habe ich in den letzten 10Jahren gelebt etc.)
  

Bestimmt habe ich noch etwas vergessen...

Da müssen wir halt jetzt durch und hoffen, dass wir beim Interview (auch in Bern) alles haben - sonst kommt der ganze Prozess ins Stocken

The Green Card Saga

We went to the US Consulate in Bern yesterday. We had our I-130 form and all the necessary documents in hand. After are run through the security check, what a challenge with two toddlers, we made it to the desk just in time for our interview! Well, we learned real fast that this is just the beginning. We have a host of paperwork to complete. Which included proof of all police records for every country where Beate has resided for longer than 12 months! Well we have most in hand but the UK has turned out to be a bit of challenge. To there credit, the Metro police have set up a website just for this purpose. Thank you folks!

It also helps to know that in the UK it is not called a police certificate.

Das Sauber werden kann losgehen....

Nun kann das Abenteuer Sauberwerden ja losgehen...Samuel hat gestern (10.März) von alleine entschieden, dass er jetzt mal seinem Töpfchen einen Besuch abstatten möchte. Er war ja soooo stolz..denn bisher weigerte er sich immer mit einem eindeutigen Nein und wehe man versuchte ihn mal draufzusetzen...dann war das Geschrei gross!!! Toilettenpapier gehört natürlich auch dazu...nur nass wurde das Töpfchen noch nicht. Aber das hat ja Zeit.... 

Schneebaden

Es gibt eine neue Disziplin im Wintersport und die nennt sich Schneebaden. Wir waren letzte Woche noch mal auf dem Mostelsberg(Kanton Schwyz) gerade eine halbe Stunde von uns entfernt.

 An unserem Wohnort Hünenberg gab es fast kein Schnee mehr dafür dort um so mehr. Eigentlich wollten wir mit den Kindern Schlitten fahren. Doch die Kinder fanden den Tiefschnee viel schöner und nahmen ein Bad nach dem anderen. Samuel hat inzwischen auch entdeckt, dass Handschuhe eine gute Erfindung ist. So fuhren wir eben ohne die Kinder den kleinen Berg hinunter. Jeff gönnte sich dann noch eine rasante Abfahrt den ganzen Berg hinunter während wir gemütlich den Berg mit der Seilbahn hinuntergondelten.

Es  schneit, es  schneit... kommt alle aus dem Haus. Die Welt, die Welt 

sieht wie gepudert aus. Das ist ein supersüsses Kinderlied, das bei uns immer dann gesungen wird, wenn es eben schneit. Wir hatten viel Spass auf dem nahe liegenden Spielplatz.... Schnee ist einfach klasse und inspiriert nicht nur die Kinder. Könnt ihr den Mini - Schneemann sehen   

Well we had a light dusting on Sunday so we went out and built snowmen.  We had a great time once Samuel realized that gloves are useful.  He refused to put them on and then cried when he got snow on his hands.

Kunstausstellung/Art exhibition

Diese schönen Gemälde von Marlene wollten wir euch nicht vorenthalten. Das obere Bild ist eine Biene. Es entstehen immer wieder superschöne Bilder, die man leider gar nicht alle aufhängen kann. Aber sie hat schon mehrere Mappen, wo sie ihre Bilder aufbewahren kann. Wir schauen sie immer wieder sehr gerne an.

Marlene has been busy painting and drawing.  This interesting creation is a bee.  She loves to draw and we would need a gallery of our own in order to keep all of her creations.

Dieses Bild stellt eine Rakete mit Flügeln dar. Wir waren doch letzte Woche im Verkehrshaus Luzern. Dort gab es auch eine Ausstellung über das Weltall. Das hat Marlene echt beeindruckt.

Passport renewal

Today it was off to the US Consulate in Zürich. It was time to renew my passport. The directions on the website are good and made it via train and tram in under an hour. Once I got there with all my paperwork, I was informed that the one person who does this was sick. Well, fortunately you can do everything but pay. So I had to pay my 97 francs via the postoffice bank. It takes about 3 weeks to process everything.

It took me a while to understand all of the application processes. Their are two possible forms DS-82 and DS-11. If it is your first time then you must do the DS-11. If not then you can use the DS-82 and do everything by mail. But that means you are without a passport while you wait. No travel, arggh! The website is a bit ambiguous about which form to use if you are overseas and don't want to do it by mail but in person. Well, the answer is you still use the DS-82 form but have to present yourself again at the Consulate to get the new passport when it is ready. This is so they can cancel the old one.

Verkehrshaus Luzern / Transportation Museum

We went to the museum on Saturday. The city of Lucern is about 20 minutes from our house. They have a great museum that has to do with anything that moves, ships, planes, cars and trains. The kids just loved it. There was plenty to touch and press.

Samuel and Marlene just loved the exhibits and we had a great day inside in spite of the retched weather outside. We even got to board an old Coronado which is on permanent display. Take a look at the pictures of Marlene in the 1st class cabin. She just loved pretending that we were flying to see Grandma. Well, now it is Beate's turn

Also jetzt bin ich, Beate dran...am Samstag beschlossen wir zum Verkehrshaus Luzern (ca.20min von unserm Wohnort) zu fahren. Das ist ein Museum ueber saemtliche Fortbewegungsmittel Eisenbahnen, Autos, Flugzeuge, Seilbahnen, Schiffe,....früher und heute. Viele Knöpfe, Schalter wurden nicht nur von unseren Kindern mit Leidenschaft gedrückt.

Ein Flugzeug (hier eine ausrangierte Convair Coronado) von innen zu betrachten und so tun als ob man zur Grandma nach Amerika fliegt, machte besonders Marlene Spass.

Noch ein Knueller war einmal so tun als ob man Nachrichtensprecher im Fernseher waere. Das war lustig - leider haben wir da keine Photos oder einen Film.

So ein Ausflug macht sooooooo müde!!!!!!!!

Our day out/Unser Tag in den Alpen

We wanted to share some great photos. Now that Beate has cleared away the last of the boxes we decided to celebrate and see a bit of the country which is our new home. We all piled into the car and rode out. The Alps we must see was the cry and we drove until we were lost in the Alps. Fortunately, Switzerland is a small country and we found to our surprise that we were near the Sattel (http://www.ski-mythen.ch/anzeigetafel.php?Region=1). We went up to the Mostelberg and tried out our sleding skills.

Wir hatten ja sooooooooo viel Spass im Schnee. Heute mittag haben wir uns auf den Weg gemacht, um die Schweizer Berge und vor allem den Schnee zu erkunden. Eigentlich wollten wir auf en Zugerberg - aber wir sind dann im Kanton Schwyz gelandet. Dort gibt es Berge ueber Berge. Es dauerte auch nicht lange, da sahen wir Leute mit dem Schlitten den Berg hinuntersausen. Hier nennt man das Schlitteln...Also ab ging es auf den Mostelberg (kennt ja jeder :-) Schnee, Sonne, Schlittenfahren, gutgelaunte Kinder,....was will man mehr. Eigentlich haben nur noch die Skis gefehlt!!!

Jetzt schreibe ich - also Beate auch mal etwas in unseren Blog. Und ich habe selber herausgefunden, wie das geht. Bin ja so stolz!!!!

Das sind unsere zwei Mäuse. Beide Kinder haben meine Ofenhandschuhe an. Das musste natürlich gleich festgehalten werden. Was für Ideen doch Kinder haben. So ist es uns und mir fast nie langweilig.

-The kids decided to try the oven gloves on for shoe size। Naturally once Marlene tried Sam had to try as well. There is never a dull moment with kids around.

New Year's Day Spaghetti

Our New Year's brunch consisted of large portions of spaghetti which the kids ate with real bravado. Sam decided that the spoon was not sufficient so he added his ten fingers to the task. He finished filled and quite a mess.
